Guidelines

In order to maintain BASRaT registration, Sport Rehabilitators should be able to demonstrate their participation in Continuing Professional Development, otherwise known as CPD. The role of CPD activity is to maintain professional and fit-for-practise competencies relating to each member’s practise in Sport Rehabilitation. This also helps to ensure that registrants maintain and develop their skills to be able to practise safely and effectively.

It is acknowledged that each member has individual needs which relate to their professional role and a variety of CPD activity pathways are required to accommodate this. CPD also allows the expansion of knowledge and skills according to individual professional requirements, but relating to the scope of practise of Sport Rehabilitation as outlined in the Role Delineation for a Graduate Sport Rehabilitator.

BASRaT registrants must meet the following three requirements:

  • Maintain an up-to-date, continuous and accurate record of their CPD activities.

  • Engage in a variety of CPD activities, from at least two different categories, which reflect their current and future practice and the needs of those whom they work with.

  • Ensure that their CPD contributes to improvement in their practise as a GSR

There is no requirement to participate in a minimum number of hours of CPD activity. Please note that a valid Emergency First Aid qualification is required, as a minimum standard, to maintain registration.

CPD profiles are considered up to 31st December for each 24-month period. Registrants graduating over the summer will be eligible for audit for the first time at the end of their second year of full, annual registration e.g. a graduate from summer 2020 should hold records of 2020-2022 and would be eligible for audit in early 2023. They should then continue to hold records for 2023-2024, 2025- 2026 and onwards. A graduate of summer 2021 will be due for audit in early 2024 (with records for the remainder of 2021 until the end of 2023).

All registrants who have completed their 24-month submission period will then be eligible for audit again 2 years later, in line with the examples above, whether they were selected for audit or not

CPD Frequently Asked Questions

  • Since 2009 BASRaT is no longer stipulating a minimum requirement in terms of hours, rather each member will self regulate and have targets of attending different categories of courses.

  • Members who graduated in 2003 should have records for the period of 2004 & 2005 (this will include the remainder of 2003), then the next period will be 2006 & 2007 and so on. Those who graduated in summer 2009 are eligible for audit in early 2012 (for the period 2010 & 2011). Check your details are correct on your Member Homepage, it is calculated from when you graduated and from your initial joining date.

  • This is all now SELF REGULATED and it is up to you to put down how many hours you attended for each entry. The website will then show you are running total, but remember that BASRaT is now not counting your hours, so there is no minimum amount required.

  • Most practical courses have some theoretic basis explored prior to the practical part of the session starting. If there was a practical component to the course, then state practical examined/non-examined (as applicable) as the submission category.

  • Your Member Homepage should/will be used as a guide only. All members are required to maintain their own CPD records and whilst they may be audited their website record may not be 100% accurate.

  • Again – it is not feasible to provide acknowledgements for each online submission but we hope that the guidelines and these FAQs will allow you to be aware of the suitability of your activities.

    Please ensure you keep records of what you enter onto the BASRaT website - electronic records are NEVER 100% guaranteed. You will have the ability to download to Word document from your member homepage - so use this regularly.

  • Remember BASRaT is not counting your CPD hours. CPD activity may come from a number of sources, including self-directed learning, workplace learning and reflective practice. Make sure you have included AGM and first aid courses. Check out BASRaT website for courses coming up. Speak to your colleagues and find out which courses they go on and where. Please note any course that you do may be counted for CPD hours, as long as it is relevant to your clinical practise.

    BASRaT will randomly audit 5% of the graduate membership and will inform any member if their CPD activity is deemed unsuitable, after which time that member will be given opportunities to rectify their situation.
