New Guidance: Administration of Medical Gases

BASRaT has published new guidance on the Administration of Medical Gases for Sport Rehabilitators.

This document provides clear, practical advice on the lawful and safe use of oxygen and Entonox in sporting and pre-hospital environments. It outlines how medical gases are classified under UK law, the difference between Patient Specific Directions (PSDs), locally developed protocols, and Patient Group Directions (PGDs), and sets out the training and governance standards required for registrants to practise safely.

The guidance also clarifies where professional responsibility lies under each framework and reinforces the importance of appropriate pre-hospital care qualifications and clinical record-keeping.

This new document is available for BASRaT members to view and download via the Resources area of the Member Portal.
