BASRaT leads the way in new mediation for FtP cases
BASRaT is pleased to introduce a mediation service for the resolution of appropriate Fitness to Practise (FtP) cases. As the first Accredited Register to launch this new process, BASRaT believes it offers a fair, constructive and resolution-focused approach that also aims to be a kinder solution for Registrants and people raising concerns.
BASRaT will refer suitable concerns for mediation when it is considered appropriate and beneficial. Participation will be confidential and unresolved matters will continue through BASRaT’s established FtP procedures.
The Nockolds service offers an independent, external, professional mediation service where concerns are listened to and acted upon. BASRaT selected Nockolds Resolution due to their experience providing independent mediation services across healthcare and professional regulation where there is a growing focus on early resolution, learning and proportionate responses and continuing to safeguard the public.
Oliver Coburn, Registrar at BASRaT, said:
“Introducing mediation into our Fitness to Practise framework supports BASRaT’s commitment to proportionate, fair and effective regulation. Mediation provides an opportunity to explore concerns constructively, focusing on communication, understanding, and resolution where appropriate. We are pleased to be working with Nockolds ADR, whose experience in healthcare and professional regulation gives us confidence that this service will operate to a high standard and in the public interest.”
The mediation service will be delivered independently by Nockolds ADR and will be free to complainants. Jennie Jones, Head of Nockolds Resolution, said:
“We are delighted to be supporting BASRaT with the introduction of mediation into its Fitness to Practise processes. Mediation can play an important role in helping regulators respond to concerns in a way that is fair, compassionate and resolution‑focused, while maintaining public confidence and professional standards. Our role is to provide an impartial and robust process that supports both complainants and registrants and complements BASRaT’s wider regulatory framework.”
